Click on the tabs below to discover more about the Focus Cities Research Initiative (FCRI), of which Kampala is one of the chosen cities, and to learn more about the particular community selected.
How did the project begin? The International Development Research Centre (IDRC) as part of its Urban Poverty and Environment Program (UPE) has created the Focus Cities Research Initiative (FCRI). This Initiative is in the process of establishing in nine cities throughout the world (two in each of four regions: Latin America and the Caribbean, Sub-Saharan Africa, Asia and the Middle East and North Africa, plus a ninth building on an existing project in Argentina) support for multistakeholder research teams to promote awareness, policy options and best practices to reduce environmental impacts in poor urban and peri-urban areas. The outcomes of the FCRI will provide evidence that achievement of the Millennium Development Goals is possible when governments and their citizens work together to find solutions.
